House Fire - Seusing Boulevard

   The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a structural fire on Seusing Boulevard. Arriving Chief Officers and apparatus encountered a two story wood frame structure heavily involved in fire. Fortunately the three adult occupants of the home escaped without injury. Engines 3-8-11, 3-8-1, 3-8-4, 3-8-3, ladder 3-8-7 and heavy rescue 3-8-9 operated at this incident under the command of 2nd Assistant Chief Thomas Kriklava (forward chief) and 1st Assistant Chief Ray Woods who was the overall incident commander. Nesconset Fire Department was requested for a Rapid Intervention team and Smithtown Fire Department was requested to fill-in at Hauppauge H.Q. Initial attack to the fire was hindered due to the house power line service having dropped prior to F.D. arrival and blocking access for personnel and equipment. The fire investigation of this incident was being conducted by Detectives of the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad. All equipment was secure from this incident as of 2041 hrs.

Trailer Fire - In the rear of 110 Motor Pkwy.

   The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire in the rear of 110 Motor Parkway, the Sheraton Long Island Hotel. Engine 3-8-3, 3-8-4, 3-8-11, 3-8-14, Ladder 3-8-7 & Heavy Rescue 3-8-9 with approximately 25 personnel operated at this incident under the tactical command of Assistant Chief Tom Kriklava, with strategic and overall incident commander being the Chief of Department Michael Gagliardi. A 40 foot semi-trailer was found to be heavily involved in fire. The trailers contents were furniture & vinyl wall covering. The contents was total loss as was the trailer body. The Suffolk County Police Arson Squad was requested to investigate the highly suspicious nature of this fire. All Units were back in service as of 1431 hrs.

   The Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted for a report of an overturned truck at New Highway & Veterans Highway. Unit 3-8-9 briefly operated at this scene under the command of Assistant Chief Woods. The truck driver was evaluated by the first responder of Commack Ambulance and refused medical attention.

   The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident with a report of one of the vehicles being overturned. Engine 3-8-4, 3-8-11 under the command of Chief of Department Gagliardi operated at this incident. No extrication was required. One person was known to have sustained what looked like minor injuries and was treated and transported to the Hospital by personnel of the Central Islip-Hauppauge Community Ambulance. Fire Department personnel engaged in removing a lot of debris from the roadway and applied absorbent to spilt fluids. We also assisted the police by righting the vehicle and removing the same from roadway so road could be reopened. All equipment was back in service as of 1758 hrs.

   The Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with fire and possible entrapment at the junction of Veterans Highway and Northern State Parkway. Engines 3-8-3, 3-8-4 and Heavy Rescue 3-8-9 responded under the command of Engine 3 Lieutenant Thomas Lafemina & Truck Lieutenant Michael Knopf. Units found a 2000 Pontiac Trans-Am that had left the roadway eastbound, careened through the woods almost into the westbound entrance ramp area. The car literally disintegrated with the entire front end in multiple pieces on the eastbound side. The remains of the engine compartment had been on fire but had been extinguished by Suffolk County Police officers prior to the fire departments arrival. Only minor extrication work was required.The vehicle operator, (believe it or not) was known to have sustained some injuries but none appeared to be serious. The injured male was treated and transported to the hospital by the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp. All units were back in service as of 1815 hrs.
