The Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted for a mutual aid to assist the Nesconset Fire Department at the collapse of an unattached open garage type structure on Marchant Drive. Nesconset was confronted with metal shed that had been crushed in the collapse which contained hazardous materials and at least one extremely valuable automobile was also trapped in the collapse along with two other vehicles. In order to stabilize the structure and to alleviate the hazardous materials problem and remove the one extremely valuable automobile special equipment was needed such as the para-tech air struts, a moderate supply of lumber and a grip hoist which was provided by the Hauppauge Heavy / Technical Rescue unit 3-8-9. Due to the continued instability of the structure it was later dismantled by equipment from the Town of Smithtown. The entire operation was under the Command of Nesconset Chief of Department Kevin Zanfardino with assistance from his Deputies and Hauppauge Chief of Department Michael Gagliardi and his 2nd Assistant Chief Thomas Kriklava. All Hauppauge Personnel were secure by 1944 hrs.
