Since the founding of the 14 man Hauppauge Fire Company over
70 years ago, the job of protecting the District from fire and other
disaster has become infinitely more complex. Hauppauge's rural atmosphere
is a thing of the past. We are home to major businesses, hotels and
thousands of residents. We share responsibility for protecting the
world headquarters of Computer Associates with our neighbors, the
Central Islip Fire District. Each day huge quantities of hazardous
materials are transported through our District. Each day tens of thousands
of people come to Hauppauge to earn their living. Times have changed
and we have changed with them. Our training, a top priority for the
Fire District, is intense and constantly ongoing. We train, not only
for the routine fires, but for hazardous materials incidents, high
rise fires, terrorist and bomb incidents, plane crashes, extricating
crash victims and rescuing individuals trapped in building or underground
collapses. Our officers receive specialized training in fire service
management and incident command. Our apparatus is modern and well
equipped. Our members come from all walks of life and from all professions
with each member bringing something special to the organization in
the way of knowledge and talent.
A lot has changed in these many years, but one thing remains
constant - our dedication to the protection of life and property.
The kind of dedication that comes from giving freely of yourself to
help your neighbors. The kind of dedication that comes from being
a professional volunteer firefighter.
